About
I decided to create The Empathy Experience during my own pregnancy. Throughout my pregnancy I wished that my husband could feel what it was like to be pregnant! I heard about The Empathy Belly® and looked high and low, yet was unable to find one. I figured other pregnant women must share my desire to have others experience and know what it feels like to be pregnant. The Empathy Experience was born out of this desire, as well as a desire to share suggestions and tips for how to better support parents-to-be throughout their pregnancies. It is also my hope for The Empathy Experience to touch the minds and hearts of medical professionals who work with pregnant women, as well as teenagers in order to educate them and help to prevent teenage pregnancy.
My experience and background brings a unique and interesting perspective to teaching about pregnancy symptoms and fosters valuable skills for increasing empathy for pregnant couples. I have a Ph.D. in Applied Anthropology and have taught Anthropology courses at University of Oregon, University of South Florida, and Valencia College. My expertise lies at the intersection of health, nutrition, human growth & development, reproduction, and women’s studies from current medical, interpretive, global, cultural, and evolutionary perspectives.
As an anthropologist, I specialize in building bridges that take the form of helping people, who come from different experiences and perspectives, to better understand each other’s everyday lived realities. |
